A friends wedding....

A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of photographing one of my oldest friends wedding and it was a perfect day!

We arrived at their home in the morning, Kirsty the bride greeted us with a cup of tea and Paul the groom was also home as they were getting ready for their big day together, which was such a lovely idea and showed the sort of day that was approaching, relaxed, happy and memorable. I was more nervous than them when we arrived, they were both so calm, Kirsty was more worried about us and others and even made everyone lunch!

I asked Paul how he felt, he told me he didn’t feel nervous at all, as he was marrying someone he wants to be with for the rest of his life, so why should he be.

Bernice Beaumont one of my favourite ever makeup and hair artists arrived and was totally amazing as always, they did not even have a trail and Bernice did Kirsty’s hair and makeup exactly how she wanted it with one take! She looked flawless!

Paul was spending the morning making sure Theodora (Teddy) their 1 year old daughter had a nice nap ready for the busy day ahead while his lady was being pampered and he was on the sofa unable to move while Teddy slept on him for over an hour bless her. When she woke she saw her mummy and was fascinated by the gorgeous sparkly head piece in her hair.  Paul just had enough time to get on his suit and Kirsty straightened his tie and made sure he looked perfect, which was a great photo moment, before he had to get to the church where he would meet her at the end of the aisle, they kissed goodbye like any other normal day and he was off to get married.

The little bridesmaids were Kirsty's 3 nieces and of course her beautiful daughter Teddy who is literally one of the cutest kids I know! They wore pale pink dresses and had very cute wands with hearts on the ends that they could keep forever. Kirsty's nephew was an usher and looked very grown up in his pale blue suit! When the family arrived the bride helped all the kids get ready before getting on her dress for the final part of the morning.

It was so nice being part of the bridal preparations, I have known the Hyland’s for most of my life and it was lovely seeing them all together and being part of the excitement.

Kirsty’s Dad Terry arrived and was the most nervous out of everyone, he had spent most the morning finishing his speech which had a memory photo presentation and was an excellent speech later in the evening. While he waited he put the finishing touches on the families VW campervan which was the wedding car! We love VW Campers!

It was the big moment of the bride putting on her dress, it was stunning and just perfect for her, purchased from Bellissima in South-Woodham-Ferrers, it was a elegantly fitted Slim A-Line gown with a high tulle neckline overlaid with delicate lace with a sparkle belt and  falling layers of Crinkle Chiffon it had a show-stopping lace back and a long line of button. Kirsty asked me to do up for her small detailed buttons after her mum had done up a few as there were so many, they took me so long I had to have a break in-between but it was totally worth it and a moment I will never forget! The bride looked amazing and I managed to hold back the tears, even when my daughter Esmé saw her for the first time and said “look mummy, a princess” she really did look like a princess and was about to start her fairytale.

The sun was shining and we arrived for their 4pm ceremony at the church on the hill in St Lawrence which had spectacular views and once again made me appreciate where we live in “the dengie” that little bit more! As Kirsty walked into the church doorway with her Dad she took some deep breaths and then walked up the aisle with a huge smile towards her Paul, who was waiting with pride for his future wife. During their hymns the bridesmaids were dancing in the church and enjoying every moment singing along, a beautiful ceremony and they were now Mr and Mrs Edwards.

Outside the church on the beautiful warm sunny afternoon the new Mrs Edwards decided to traditionally throw her gorgeous bouquet, of course I went to catch it even though James and I are engaged! I was so worried about the bouquet and her beautiful flowers breaking that when it landed on the floor I panicked and picked it up to check it was ok, then looked up and realised that I was the one to “catch the bouquet” watch out James we may have to marry sooner than planned!

We arrived at the Reception with the new Mr and Mrs after some love photos of the couple together, the venue was one of my favourite places The Parlour Cafe in Creeksea, such a cute venue in a lush location, it was beautifully decorated and had gorgeous flowers that matched the bouquet, button holes and corsages all done by local florists and their cake was to perfect to cut, with matching cupcakes and cake pops made by a popular local cake company called Pink Face.

They had a live singer called Bridie Douglas, she was brilliant and sang most of the evening creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere and then getting everyone dancing towards the end of the evening. Bridie sang their first dance “a thousand years” an absolute favourite and Kirsty, Paul and Teddy had a family first dance together.

Dad Terry requested a dance with the bride,  his youngest daughter and last to get married and they had a lovely father and daughter moment while we all held back some more happy tears.

The newlyweds let us try some new photos outside in the late evening when it was dark, and James got to try out a new idea that looked awesome and totally had a unique modern look which you can see below. We also did some gorgeous photos of them both having a moment by the large outside festoon lights which set such a romantic scene and were some of my favourites.

Our daughter Esmé was with us all day and it was so nice having a little dance with her and everyone in the evening, it was a small challenge watching our toddler while also photographing a wedding and being a guest, but also so fun having Esmé with us, despite all the sweets she eat she was such a good girl all day and waited for us to finish even though she was tired and made herself a little bed on the armchair inside! All of us had such a lovely time celebrating the day, it was so great seeing everyone, and seeing my friend so happy and complete, it was definitely one of my favourite days to remember!

Congratulations Kirsty and Paul you truly are made for each other and it was such an honour to be your photographers for one of the most special days of your life! We definitely captured some amazing memories and we are so looking forward to showing them all to you!

I cannot express enough how honoured we feel when people book us after seeing us work at other weddings or events, this means we must be doing something right!

The biggest compliment is having our customers recommend us and also come back for more photos themselves. We have done some photos of certain families from the time their kids were born to when they are walking!

We were part of a gorgeous wedding for a lovely couple at Gosfield Hall who then booked us for family photos a couple of times after they were married,  and then we recently photographed their beautiful Mum Jan’s wedding which was another stunning day, as well as doing photos for their Auntie last year to promote her Toastmaster role and a newborn lifestyle shoot in November booked with their Cousin! It is such an honour and they are a lovely family!

We truly think that recommendations are the best! And all of our customers have been so generous with their feedback and loveliness on our Facebook page reviews. They really know how to make us blush...

Smashing up cakes!!!

So as you know Cake smash photo shoots have become EXTREMELY popular and we LOVE them and everything about them, especially the cakes!  We can’t think of a much better way of celebrating a first or second birthday than smashing a big cake! These are brilliant fun as there is no posing, no jumping around to get children to smile, it’s just all about their reactions to the yummy cake in front of them!

What I would give to be young and sit in front of a giant cake and basically smash it up and eat all the good stuff then throw the rest where ever I please!!

We offer inside and outside Cake smash sessions and they both have different looks, obviously outside ones are just for the warmer days and the baby wipes are definitely nearby! And inside would be in our home based studio and there is normally a trail of icing from the studio set to our bathroom where the kids get to have a quick bath if needed. When the customers go our little dogs love this as they get to eat up any crumbs we miss cleaning up, this is probably another reason why they are obese!

People always worry about their cake, but personally we love the handmade or supermarket bought ones as they barely get eaten as it always seems like such a waste of deliciousness.

We love to do newborn shoots and have new parents rebook us for a 1st birthday Cake smash and then a year later see the kids sitting up and eating cake seeming so grown up in a blink of an eye, it’s an awesome privilege to document these milestones for families.

I have to talk about our last Cake smash around two weeks ago for a cute nearly 1 year old called Phoebe! Some kids are not too sure about what to do with this large treat all to themselves, they wait for someone to tell them not to touch it or not to eat too much, and when we start to break the cake up ourselves they realise how yummy it is or they can’t bare getting the mess on their cute little fingers, but Phoebe she was an expert she just went for it, it was definitely the definition of SMASHING, she eat as much as she could and had the biggest smile when we gave her the spoon to make mess with! Even her parents let us take some photos of them all together and getting messy which was very fun, HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO PHOEBE you were a star!!

We can’t wait for the next Cake smash shoot soon!

Local Weddings

We have been doing alot more local weddings near to our home in what we call and everyone else knows as “the dengie” now James and I lived here when we were children, I couldn’t bare it as there isn’t the most here to do as a child (I thought at the time) but after James and I fell pregnant and we lived in Chelmsford for 5 years we realised we wanted our child to growup where we did and also it was convenient with my parents living close by!

ANYWAYS the point I am trying to get to is WEDDINGS there are 4 wedding venues up the road from us and they are all beautiful! The newest one called High House Weddings we were so lucky to work there for Lucy and Terry’s wedding at the beginning of the year when the sun started shining and it had only just open, gosh their wedding was beautiful, colourful and all handmade it was really amazing Lucy worked so hard with all the little touches and even though Terry had a shoe mishap in the morning it was a perfect day! We were so happy to of been a part of it and made some great new friends with Lucy and Terry who are a great couple!

Then we did Nicola and Jason’s wedding, she got ready in Althorne Barns which had the most stunning view and I took 5minutes to look and think how beautiful “The Dengie” really is and how we would be lucky to marry here ourselves! Nicola and Jason got married in the Little Church on the Hill in Mayland, we have done a few christenings and even our first ever wedding there so we love this gorgeous little church and it has gorgeous fields as a backdrop so once again amazing views! They pitched up a large marquee to the side of the church which I didn’t realise could be an option and it was perfect, Nicola is so creative so she handmade EVERYTHING from the decorations, to the bridesmaid dresses, to the boys cufflinks! They even had a horse and cart that apparently Lady Ga Ga had been in, with a gold carriage and beautiful white horses, it was like a dream! So much detail and a unique day, we were blessed to be a part of it and make new friends again!

Then we have just been part of Christie and Robs wedding last weekend and another WOW factor, The girls got ready at her parents which had a sea view garden and was windy but relaxing watching the boats go by, Christie’s dad made a swing on a tree for her to have photos when she sat on it and her dad swung her it was like a fairytale movie scene! They married in our closest church St Mary’s in our hometown, this is a gorgeous large church, they had a horse and cart to take them to their reception which was a unique shape marquee very large for their over 100 day time guests with coloured flags on the tips, set on a large field by Elm Farm with once again stunning views! Christie decorated the marquee with lots of gold which I just love! And once again the whole family contributed to so much handmade little details! While making them walk to the farm to find some rustic backdrops I couldn’t help but feel some memories as I use to keep my horse there when I was just 8 years old. We took some photos using the stunning backdrop seeing the boats go by and the sun going down with Christies long vale flying in the wind and once again I couldn’t help but feel lucky about where we live.

We can not wait to photograph one of my oldest dearest friends wedding in a couple of weeks at the Parlour Cafe which is by far one of my favourite places to go! They are having a relaxed wedding in the Mayland Church on the Hill and reception in the Parlour which is a new little wedding reception venue people are just finding out about, James and I were desperate to have our engagement party there (and still might one day) its so funky and light and shabby chic, I love it! I hope they open themselves for people to get married there soon as I then may of found our wedding venue! Stay tuned for Kirsty and Paul’s wedding photos I am sure they will be beautiful and you will catch me crying in a couple as I can’t wait to see one of my best friends get hitched!
