Meet Your Photographer
Hi, I’m James Knights, the creative eye behind Day & Knight Photography. Based in Brightlingsea, Essex, I specialise in wedding, engagement, and lifestyle photography, capturing raw emotions and real moments.
With over 15 years of experience, I blend documentary-style photography with a modern, artistic approach. My goal is to make you feel comfortable and confident, ensuring your special moments are preserved beautifully.
Let’s chat about your vision – I’d love to hear your story!
The Story Behind Day & Knight
Day & Knight Photography began as a name that meant more than just a business. It was personal. It came from the joining of two surnames, Day and Knights, and the balance they naturally represented. Light and dark. Calm and chaos. Quiet moments and loud laughter. The kind of contrast that exists not only in photography, but in real life.
In the early days, the business was built alongside my beautiful fiancée Emily Day, and together we shaped the foundations of what Day & Knight stood for. Honest storytelling, relaxed energy, and images that feel real rather than forced. Emily was the voice and admin of the business and James was the creative one.
Today, Day & Knight Photography is run solely by me, James Knights, carrying forward everything the name represents. I believe the best photographs live in the in-between moments. The soft light at the end of the day, the laughter between the posed shots, and the quiet just before the noise. It is about balance, connection, and letting moments unfold naturally. Emily continues to support the brand through content creation, while also running her own nail tech business, and fully support her in that journey (Brides go get your nails done by Emily, She’s amazing!)
Outside of photography, my life is wonderfully full and loud. I am a proud dad to my daughter Esmé and my two boys Forrest and Oakley, who keep me grounded, inspired, and constantly on my toes. When I am not behind the camera, you will usually find me watching movies, geeking out over Marvel or Lord of the Rings, planning the next snowboard trip, tinkering with my VW, or eating pizza because pizza will always be life.
Day & Knight is not just a name. It is a reflection of life as it is. Imperfect, meaningful, and full of contrast. And that is exactly how I photograph it.
