October Wedding at Houchins: Bernice & Sam

October weather in Essex is always a gamble. Some days you get grey skies and rain, and other days you hit the jackpot. Bernice and Sam got the absolute dream scenario with clear blue skies, bright sunshine, and crisp autumn air from start to finish.
I always love heading back to Houchins. The venue has a great mix of that traditional farmhouse feel alongside the modern wooden barn, which gives me loads of options for photos regardless of the season.

Morning Prep at the Farmhouse
Bernice spent the morning getting ready in the farmhouse with her bridal party. The light in those prep rooms is brilliant, and the atmosphere was completely relaxed with plenty of champagne and music flowing. Over in the courtyard, Sam was catching up with guests as everyone arrived, looking ready for the main event.

The ceremony inside the marquee was simple, emotional, and full of smiles. Bernice looked incredible walking down the aisle, and Sam’s reaction said it all. Once they exchanged vows, they headed straight out into the sunshine through a massive wall of confetti thrown by their family and friends.

While everyone grabbed drinks on the terrace, I took Bernice and Sam away for about fifteen minutes to explore the grounds. The low October sun gave me gorgeous warm light to work with. I kept things really casual so they could just enjoy a quiet moment together as newlyweds without feeling like they were stuck in rigid poses.

After food in the Grain Store, the speeches brought plenty of laughs and a few embarrassing stories at Sam's expense. Once the first dance was out of the way, the party kicked off properly and the dance floor stayed full for the rest of the night.
